Weekly Newsletter

by Betsy Ethridge

Greetings Christ Episcopal Church Family, The Harvest Gala Silent Auction and the Arts and Crafts Festival are two weeks away. YIKES! Please, please finish up your projects, put a price on them, and get them to the Parish Hall. Label them Arts and Crafts. Let Margo Brock, Ike, or me know about what you are bringing. We will even pick up your contributions if necessary.

Let Chan or Annette Kirklin know if you wish to have a donation for the Silent Auction.

We have two more Arts and Crafts workshops:  this Saturday and next Saturday at church.   Please attend them and bring anything else you are making to work on afterwards.

We also need people to sign up to help with the Silent Auction AND the Arts and Crafts Festival by setting up, working the days of the events, and tearing down the following week.  There will be a sign-up poster in the Parish Hall and at the Lake Bruin Fun Day this Sunday.

We will be pre-selling tickets to the barbecue/soup lunch offered during the Arts and Crafts Festival.  This will be a form of advertising and a convenience.  Margo, Ike and I will have envelopes of 10 tickets to give to CEC members.  We also will have flyers to distribute.  Please, please try to sell them, put up flyers, and talk up both events at work and about town.

Praise report:  On Wednesday, September 26, I received this information concerning Katie Koestler, for whom prayer was requested earlier this week.  After the test this past Tuesday, the doctors have determined that the AVM (mass of blood vessels – some were leaking) is no longer there.  The doctors believe it may have deteriorated on its own - there is really no explanation.  One of the doctors said he was 99.9% sure it is not a tumor.  Katie is truly blessed because in most cases this would have caused her to be paralyzed.  The recommended course of action is for her to come home Wednesday (9/26), take it easy and return in two weeks for another test.  She won't be able to drive or participate in sports, but she can go back to school on Monday.  Katie and her mother Carla want everyone to know how much they appreciate our thoughts and prayers.  The power of prayer is truly amazing!

Cursillo #114 is schedule for October 18-24 at Gray Center in Canton, MS.  For more information and to download forms, visit http://www.chapelofthecrossms.org/Cursillo/CursilloHome.html.  Contact me if you would like to attend.

The CEC finance committee asks for those who can to please pay their monthly tithes at the beginning of the month. Why?  Because that is when most of the church bills come due.  It makes better cash flow sense. Also, recently one of our members came into an unexpected financial blessing and gave 10% of it to the church.  What a wonderful example of faithful stewardship!

Jennifer Melton invites all CEC children and grandchildren to come to a pizza and Christmas ornament-making party on Saturday, Nov. 4th, from 4:30 to 8:00ish at her house.

The weather held up for the wedding of Megan Sabol and Patrick Martinez this past Saturday in our church memorial garden.  Those that attended said the wedding and reception were beautiful.  Take a look at the new steps and handicap walk leading to the garden that the Sabols/McHans help build for the wedding  It is so attractive and so needed.  Thank you, Sabols and McHans!

Deacon Bobby Weatherly invites us to pray for Kairos #17 at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility from Thursday, Sept. 27, 7 P.M. – Sunday, Sept. 30, 5 P.M.   Bobby is on staff.  Go to www.kairos-mississippi.org. for more information.
