Weekly Newsletter

by Besty Ethridge

This Thursday evening, Aug. 16, at 5:30 in the sanctuary is Centering Prayer. Come practice what Rev. John Jenkins encouraged us to do in order to deepen our faith. Best thing I ever incorporated into my life!

Also this Thursday evening is an outreach meeting in the Sunday School Building beginning at 7:00. We will meet to further explore our "neighborhood ministry" possibilities with some others interested neighbors.  Please come if you feel called to this type of ministry.

Super Supper Club (for wrinkle-free adults) will be this Friday, August 17, at Shannon and Robby Potts house, 108 Sawgrass Point in Fairways.  The theme is appetizers.  Bring your favorite!

This Sunday, August 19, we will have our mid-year parish family meeting and potluck after the joint ten oʼclock service.  Please call Sharon (Mrs. Norman) Francingues to learn what needs to be brought for the dinner.  The vestry decided to postpone the ministry fair until stewardship emphasis month instead this meeting we will focus on the chapel renovation.  We will let you know about the ministry fair date later.  So, those who havenʼt started on a display you are off the hook.  Those who have started on a display you are ahead of the game!

People scheduled for this weekʼs Sunday service are as follows:

Altar Guild:  Nancy Curtis, Leo Koestler, Margo Brock

Lector:  Pat Engler,  Ushers:  Mike and Mary Chaney

Prayers of the People:  Mary Fagerburg,   Chalice:  Tim Fagerburg

Crucifer:  Mike Dollar,  Oblations:  Buddy and Marilyn Hardy

Torch Bearers:  Ricky McGee, Jarryd Smith

Sound:  Dave Benway

Vestry Representative:  Betsy Ethridge  (I am glad I included this in the e-newsletter for the first time ʽcause I wasnʼt aware that this Sunday was my Sunday to serve.  Thank you, Lord!)

Lay Eucharist Ministry to the Homebound:  Mike and Mary Chaney

The following is an email I received from Jennifer Melton:

*On August 19, water activities will be set up during the mid-parish meeting for the children.  Please bring a towel and swim suit for the little ones.

*A meeting for anyone interested in working with Children's Sunday School is scheduled for Monday, August 27, at 5:30 in the Sunday School Building.  Please let Jennifer know if you are interested by responding to JenniferErinAuD@yahoo.com or 601-529-4300.  Jennifer will be a little flexible on the time of the meeting if needed.

*Jennifer also wrote that Sunday School will officially kick off on Sunday, September 16.  Childcare will be provided for August 26 through September 9.

Wednesday coffee/Bible study will start up again after Labor Day.

Beginning August 20, Good Shepherd needs volunteer tutors one or two afternoons a week from 4:00-5:00.  Tutors can be high school students or adults.  See Parish Hall bulletin board for upcoming meeting.

Hey, I havenʼt seen much activity on the God Thing display in the Parish Hall.  What is a God thing?  It is an unexpected, unexplainable, fortuitous event that teaches a person something about Godʼs Grace.  Please share your God Thing experiences which will in turn inspire and encourage others.

Brenda Benwayʼs mother fell Tuesday and broke her hip.  She finally had surgery at 8:30 PM eastern on Wednesday, August 15.  Brenda will be flying to be with her mother early Sunday morning and will be gone until the 28th.  Brenda also learned over this time period that her sister, who has been sick for over three weeks, has been told by her doctor that she has a mass in her right lung.  She had a CAT scan this Wednesday afternoon; we donʼt know the results of it yet.  Please keep Brenda, her mother and her sister in your prayers.

Please keep Andy Gilbert and Blake Shockley in your prayers as they recovery from leg injuries.   Ruth Green is also in need of prayer for good health.

JoAnn Ryan wanted to let everyone know about the miracle concerning her mother these past couple of weeks which she contributes to the prayers of her CEC family.  Her mother lost 7 pints of blood and had no pulse at one point.  She had emergency surgery.  The doctors thought her mother had advanced colon cancer and found that she had stage one.  They were scratching their heads.  The day after the surgery to repair the blood leakage JoAnnʼs mother was doing crossword puzzles in ICU.  Praise the Lord!

May our God richly bless you,

Betsy
