Well, guess who attended the service this past Sunday. Not President Bush or Gov. Barbour. Not Bishop Gray or Angelina Jolie. But Dorothy and Jimmy Horn! Hallelujah! Praise God! It was so great to see their smiling faces and Dorothy mobile! Lord, continue to heal Dorothy and bless her and Jimmy.

There were lots of food and great fellowship at the mid-parish meeting and lunch.  Lots is not over emphasized here!  At the meeting, we discussed what worked and didn’t work about the Summer Fun Schedule.  Overwhelming, people expressed their satisfaction with the Summer Fun Schedule.  Also, we discussed what was working for CEC.  Lots and lots of things were listed.  With so much happening at CEC, let’s share with others – invite a friend to enjoy this loving, growing church.

Beginning August 20 (today), Good Shepherd needs volunteer tutors one or two afternoons a week from 4:00-5:00.  Tutors can be high school students or adults.  Talk to Mary Chaney about this worthwhile ministry.

This Wednesday, August 22, will be an Arts and Crafts work time at 9:30.  Bring what you are working on or help paint furniture.  Contact are Margo Brock and Miss Ike.

Later on Wednesday, August 22, will be the Healing Service at 12:15.

This Thursday evening, Aug. 23, at 5:30 in the sanctuary is Centering Prayer.

An Arts and Crafts/Harvest Gala meeting will be this Thursday evening, August 23, at 6:30 in the Parish Hall.  Tying up loose ends will be the focus.

The card-making workshop for this Saturday has been canceled.  Brenda Benway, who was to lead the session, is with her sick mother and sister.  Please keep her and her love ones in your prayers.

This Sunday, August 26, we will be back on our two Sunday services schedule of 8:00 and 10:00.  The 8:00 will be in the sanctuary until the chapel renovations are complete.  Deacon Bobby Weatherly leads the lectionary class, which explores the lectionary (Scripture) passages for the day, at 9:00 A.M. every Sunday in the Parish Hall.

People scheduled for this week’s Sunday service are as follows:

Altar Guild:  Nancy Curtis, Jackie Loyacono

8:00 Chalice/Lector:  Katherine Nordal

10:00 Lector:  Mary Fagerburg  Ushers:  Cay and Earl Lum

Prayers of the People:  Nancy Curtis   Chalice:  Sharon Miller

Crucifer:  Jarryd Smith  Oblations:  Frank and Betsye Holifield

Torch Bearers:  Dustin Brown, Brenda Benway  Sound:  Joanne Ryan

A meeting for anyone interested in working with children's Sunday school is scheduled for Monday, August 27, at 5:30 in the Sunday School Building.  Please let Jennifer know if you are interested by responding to JenniferErinAuD@yahoo.com or 601-529-4300.  Jennifer will be a little flexible on the time of the meeting if needed.

The Fall Bible Study on the book, That You May Believe: the Gospel of John by Carol J. Miller, will begin Tuesday, September 4, at 6:00 P.M. in the Parish Hall.  Nancy Curtis will be leading the study.  Please let her know if you want to participate in the study if you have not already done so.  The books will cost $20.00.

Sunday school will officially kick off on Sunday, September 16.  Childcare will be provided for August 26 through September 9.

Emily Weatherly and Michael Weissmiller married this past Saturday at Christ Church.  It was a small intimate wedding.  Please pray for the blessedness and success of this union.  Emily is Deacon Bobby Weatherly’s daughter.

Please let me know any news or prayer requests that our CEC family would like to know about.

May our God greatly bless you -  He is so awesome!
